How to Use Duplicate Email Addresses

Using Email Aliases with the Plus Sign

Many email services let you create easy-to-manage aliases by adding a plus sign (+) and extra text after your username. These aliases can help organize emails, track signups, or filter messages — all while sending mail to your main inbox.

✉️ How it works

If your email is family@gmail.com, you could use:

  • Family+wife@gmail.com
  • Family+husband@gmail.com
  • Family+kid@gmail.com

All emails will still arrive at family@gmail.com

 Providers that support this

  • Gmail
  • Outlook / Hotmail
  • iCloud
  • Some other modern email providers (check your provider’s help center)

⚠️ Providers that don’t support this

  • Yahoo Mail (does not support plus sign aliases)
  • Some older or smaller providers

? Why use email aliases?

  • Organize your inbox: Set up filters or labels automatically.
  • Track signups: Know who shared your address.
  • Block spam: If an alias starts getting spam, filter it out.
